Workers should inspect their fall protection equipment before every use. Harnesses, lanyards, connectors, stitching, webbing, labels, and hardware should all be checked for damage, wear, contamination, or anything that does not look right.
But daily checks are only one part of the process.
Fall protection equipment also needs regular formal inspections based on the manufacturer’s recommendations, often every 6–12 months. These inspections need to be completed by someone qualified to inspect that equipment.
Taking a Fall Protection course does not automatically qualify someone to complete formal inspections.
